How long does Shopify's app review take?

Shopify itself does not give a timeframe. What we do know, what developers report in 2026, and what makes a review faster or slower.

What Shopify says

Shopify's documentation gives no turnaround time for reviewing a new app. No number of days, no number of weeks. What it does say: an app with errors, a beta version or an incomplete submission delays the process or does not get approved. And the automated checks on the review page are there to shorten the time in review.

In February 2026 a Shopify employee wrote on the developer forum that reviews were taking longer than usual at that moment. No number was given.

What developers report

On the same forum, developers report two to four weeks in April 2026, and sometimes more than a month before a reviewer was even assigned to the app. One of them writes that Shopify mentioned around thirty days.

Elsewhere you still often read five to ten business days. We found no Shopify source for that. Treat all these numbers as experiences, not a promise: the queue differs from one period to the next.

Where the time goes

The turnaround has two parts. First the wait until a reviewer picks up the app. Then the rounds: the reviewer tests, emails what has to change, you make the changes and resubmit. Each round adds waiting time, and Shopify itself writes that resubmitting slows the review down.

If the app does not meet the core requirements, it is paused before a reviewer really looks at it. That is the most expensive delay: you wait, and afterwards nothing has been reviewed yet.

What keeps it short

  • All automated checks green before you submit, not after.
  • A complete submission: an English screencast that shows setup and every feature, test accounts without two-factor authentication, and a listing that meets the rules.
  • Fix everything at once. Read the reviewer's email in full and resolve every point before you resubmit.
  • Answer quickly. Shopify emails from noreply@shopify.com to the address in your listing. Add it to your trusted senders, so nothing ends up in spam.
  • Your best app first. Only one new app can be in review at a time, so a weak submission also holds up your next app.

Plan for it

For a first submission, count on a month or more, and never tie a launch to the day you submit. If the app has to go live quickly for one store, a custom app is the shorter route: it skips review and you install it with a link.

An update to an app already in the App Store does not count toward the limit for new apps. And apps with the Built for Shopify badge get a review every year. According to Shopify that usually takes a few days to a week, queue included.

Our stance

A launch date that depends on the review is not a date.

There is no fast lane, but you can prevent delays: make every automated check pass, provide a complete screencast and test accounts, and resolve every comment in one round.
